The saying should read differently in these politically correct times.
It should be said "once an addict always an addictive personality". my
studies of addiction have shown me that there lies within the addict
whether they are using or not, this underlying difficulty to remain
calm. As I have pointed out before that once an addict gives up the
drugs or the drinking they most likely tend to gravitate toward
something else to take up the slack. I have even heard some newer
studies point out that once an addict or alcoholic give up the heavy
abuse of their addiction they still have a lifespan that is cut short by
up to 20 years. This phenomenon I will explain with more detail in the
next blog. So yes it is true that an addict needs to deal with their
addictive tendencies all of their life even after stopping their vice.
How they deal with it is a matter that will determine if they relapse
again. The ex-addict must alter their lifestyle in order to not be
triggered into continued slips and relapses. There does lie with the
addictive brain a chemical imbalance that will never correct itself on
its own. This is where lifestyle modification which includes change of
diet, cutting down on stress and making daily choices based on what is
more apt to keep the ex-addict sober. "A
New Journey" is
a book I'm writing just for the addict and it will detail these changes
in lifestyle an addict must adapt to and also explain how diet plays a
key role also in the continuing recovery process. Alcoholic Anonymous
describes a condition as "the dry drunk", and that's what the
recovering addict must deal with the rest of the days in their
recovery. "
A New Journey" will show you how to deal
with a wonderful new world that is free from alcohol and drugs. These
blogs are written to make you aware of my upcoming book and it's sister
publications and also to help you help yourself to a lasting and
continued recovery.
:*NOTE: By "once an addict always an addict" I
am saying that the addictive personality is always there even after the
addiction has been arrested through abstainence. There are anxieties
and the inability to keep still that come with a heavy addiction,
whether using or not the addict or ex-addict has issues to deal with to
in order to live a calm and serene life. The ex-addict must find a
bio-balance in there life after addiction through diet, medication,
stress reduction and the elimination of caffeine products. They need to
find an eternal calming. A New Journey has set out to help the addict
into recovery and to to teach him/her how to analyze their own unique
and diverse situation in order to find the the proper ways of achieving
a bio-balance in their life. by john carcerano
